We Are The World for Philippines.

Dearest Mama and Papa,

It has been a rough year for the people back in our homeland of the Philippines.

Typhoon Haiyan (known in the Philippines as Typhoon Yolanda) is the second-deadliest Philippine Typhoon on record, killing at least 3,976 people in that country alone.  The thirtieth named storm of the 2013 Pacific Typhoon season, Haiyan originated from an area of low pressure several hundred kilometers east-southeast of Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia on November 2. Tracking generally westward, environmental conditions favored tropical cyclogenesis and the system developed into a tropical depression the following day. After becoming a tropical storm and attaining the name Haiyan at 0000 UTC on November 4, the system began a period of rapid intensification that brought it to typhoon intensity by 1800 UTC on November 5. By November 6, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) assessed the system as a Category 5-equivalent super typhoon on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale; the storm passed over the island of Kayangel in Palau shortly after attaining this strength.

Thereafter, it continued to intensify; at 1200 UTC on November 7, the Japan Meteorological Agency(JMA) upgraded the storm's maximum ten-minute sustained winds to 235 km/h (145 mph), the highest in relation to the cyclone. At 1800 UTC, the JTWC estimated the system's one-minute sustained winds to 315 km/h (195 mph), unofficially making Haiyan the fourth most intense tropical cyclone ever observed. Several hours later, the eye of the cyclone made its first landfall in the Philippines at Guiuan, Eastern Samar, without any change in intensity; if verified, this would make Haiyan the strongest tropical cyclone to make a landfall on record, surpassing the old record of 305 km/h (190 mph) set by Atlantic Hurricane Camille in 1969.  Gradually weakening, the storm made five additional landfalls in the country before emerging over the South China Sea. Turning northwestward, the typhoon eventually struck northern Vietnam as a severe tropical storm on November 10. Haiyan was last noted as a tropical depression by the JMA the following day.
The cyclone caused catastrophic destruction in the central Philippines, particularly on Samar Island and Leyte. According to UN officials, about 11 million people have been affected and many have been left homeless.

As a result of this natural disaster, people all over the world are coming together to send packages (Balikbayan boxes) and aid to the Philippines.  Your family has been donating as well, collecting items like clothes/shoes (especially for children), blankets, towels, and canned goods.  We are asking everyone and anyone who can help to do their part and people are responding with extreme generosity.

Some of us are working with LBC Express Inc. (http://www.lbcexpress.com/) since they are shipping items to the Philippine Red Cross(http://www.redcross.org.ph/) for FREE from now until Nov. 23rd.  This information has been posted everywhere and sent via email to several contacts so people know where to go to send help.  More information will follow and we will utilize your blog to help spread the word.

"We help because we can...because it's what we do when someone needs help." Mabuhay!

We love and miss you both!

Adorn Your Story

So I can't believe we're already into October! Fall is here and today just happens to be amazing boots/sweater/scarf weather and I'm SO ready! But you know what it means when October rolls around... the holidays are just around the corner... and so the madness begins :).

Most of you know that I've been a full-time stay-at-home-mama for a while now. But what you may not know is that I've got a little side business to help support my wonderful family :) {you do what you gotta do when you have 25 kids & counting lol} I recently started as an Independent Designer with a custom jewelry company called Origami Owl... it's custom because you create a personalized locket by choosing all the charms and other pizazz items to represent you or the person you're creating it for.

So, with the holidays around the corner, here's an FYI about my website in case you were interested in making a custom creation to take care of some of the ladies on your gift lists. {By the way, in case you were wondering - I don't make the products, I just sell them. :)} We just rolled out our new Fall line this week so we've got a bunch of new, very lovely items available :) I've included some pics of ideas for the lockets, but i think the beauty and fun is in creating one that is unique, personalized and from the heart.

here's my site :) adornyourstory.origamiowl.com

and if you have any questions or you want to see some of the jewelry in person, feel free to email me :)
love&blessings,
erin

Love & Motivation

Mama's Walk is about a week away!

DID YOU KNOW?
  • No Registration Fee! (This is rarely the case).  Some walks charge up to $50 just to participate, but this one is FREE!
  • You can join the walk as a Virtual Walker -  "  This means family and friends that are unable to be there for WHATEVER reason can still help us look like a full team by being there in virtual spirit!  So tell your friends of friends of friends to register under Team Mama at http://act.alz.org/site/TR?team_id=173943&fr_id=3262&pg=team.
  • Sign up, show up and relax! Team members can choose to stay behind or walk a shorter distance.  There will be booths offering free coffee, goodie bags, snacks, bottled water and fruit.  Bring a big bag and stock up!
  • Donating is preferred, but NOT required.  So not only can you join the walk for free, but you do not have to put in any money to be there! (This is also unheard of since the whole point of these events are to raise funds).  However, you can raise awareness simply by showing up)!
  • Donate a small amount.  Though it states $35.00 as a minimum, you can change the amount to something more affordable for you AND you can donate anonymously if you do not want your name to appear on the donation list. I say, $5 is $5 and it still counts so let people know you're supporting an awesome cause!
Whew!  Bottom line, it's not about why you should be a part of this.  It's why you shouldn't!  Though we know life can get in the way, all these great options above makes it literally impossible for it to get in the way of your participation!  Heck, if you need help please email me at myrnelledizon@yahoo.com and I'll do it for you!  Let's make this 6th year even more awesome!

Thank you!

With love and a great deal of MOTIVATION,

Myrnelle
